Most of the large shopping centres decided not to reopen before the Eid, despite the government decision to allow them from Sunday.

Only Islampur's clothing market, New super market, and a number of standalone shops at New Elephant Road area have opened before Sunday afternoon amid the coronavirus fears.

Besides, two small apparel markets at Uttara have opened their shutters for shoppers.

Less than a handful customers are visiting the shops in the first session, while most of the shops are still getting prepared.

Brands like Aarong, Apex and Bata have also reopened some of their outlets in a limited scale.

Some mid sized shopping centres including Aziz Super Market, Polwel and Rapa Plaza opted out from initial plan to reopen, informed Helal Uddin, president of Bangladesh Shop Owners' Association.

Islampur Cloth Merchant Association President Samsul Alam told The Business Standard that most of the shops at the cloths trading hub reopened.

Despite a little customers gathering, they are getting orders over telephone from different parts of the country, though in a lower volume.

The potential turnover would merely help the merchants pay staff salary before Eid, said Samsul Alam.
