The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), a regulatory body to ensure standards of goods and services, has started issuing clearance certificates faster for various products to keep imports normal amid the Covid-19 situation.

Besides, the work of collecting samples, issuing clearances and test reports, and accepting applications for new certificates is going on normally, according to the government agency.

A press release on Saturday said that the BSTI was issuing clearances for compulsory imported goods in the shortest possible time to keep imports normal and reduce container clutter at ports.

The press release also said that the BSTI offices in port areas are conducting all their activities, including collecting samples of products that are awaiting clearance, every day of the week, except Friday.

Arrangements are being made to issue clearances as soon as possible through product testing in the laboratory, read the release.

According to the BSTI, 141 samples of imported products were submitted to the regulatory body, and 26 clearances were issued from Sunday last to Thursday last.

Of the samples, 59 were submitted to the Chattogram office alone which issued 18 clearances during that period.

Among the samples were: milk powder, infant formula, sugar, fruit juice, fruit cordial, butter, biscuit, sunflower oil, chocolate, lozenges, instant noodles, soft drinks powder, dextrose monohydrate, skin cream, shampoo, ceramic tiles, sanitary ware appliances, ceramic tableware etc.
