A tripartite agreement has been signed between UCEP, Clifton Group and Opca Technical School to meet the demand for trained workers at Bangabandhu Industrial City in Mirsarai Upazilla of Chittagong.
Under the agreement, a technical school will be built on the campus of Mirsarai Autism Center in Mirsarai, reads a press release.
Abdus Salam, first vice president of BGMEA, was the chief guest at the signing ceremony held on Thursday at BGMEA office in Chittagong, it added.
In 2021, the school will initially train 300 people in swing machine operation, electrical and electronics trade for three months. Training in 12 trades will be subsequently provided in phases, prioritizing autistic and physically challenged people.
MDM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, director, and CEO of Clifton group presided over the signing ceremony.
Vice President, BGMEA, AM Chowdhury Selim, and Director Khandakar Belayet Hossain, spoke on the occasion along with Director, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Anjan Shekhar Das; Mirsarai Upazila Chairman, Jasim Uddin; Executive Director, Opca, Md Alamgir; Regional Manager, UCEP, Chittagong Region, Joy Prakash Barua; Ambassador, Mirsarai Autism Center, Kaiyum Nizami, and others.
The ceremony was conducted by Akram Hossain Sabuj of UCEP Bangladesh Chittagong Region and Pritha Parmita, cultural activist.
Speaking as the chief guest, Abdus Salam of BGMEA said this technical school will play an important role in creating employment through vocational training for disadvantaged youths.
"There is a shortage of skilled workers in our country. Graduate trainees from the technical school will be equipped to meet the demands of BGMEA and Bangabandhu Industrial City," he added.
Meanwhile, AM Chowdhury Selim said given the pace of industrial development in Bangladesh, vocational education is absolutely critical. Engaging autistic and disabled people in technical education and providing them with employment opportunities will convert them into national assets. This venture of UCEP, Clifton Group and Opca Technical School will serve as a milestone for the country's economy.
MDM Mohiuddin Chowdhury said that through its CSR programme, Clifton Group will support the technical school in the creation of skilled and employment opportunities for the unemployed and less-educated people.
"This technical school has started to supply skilled workers in Mirsarai Economic Zone," he added.
