Stocks post marginal gain amid low turnover

Equity benchmark indices of the stock exchanges posted marginal gains following a mixed performance amid investors selling pressure in the first one-and-half-hour trading session on Tuesday.

DSEX, the key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) declined 7.79 points – or 0.15% - to reach at 4,995 till 11:00 am.

Moreover, the Shariah index DSES lost 2.23 points to settle at 1,128 and the blue-chip index DS30 fell 2.69 points to stand at 1,709.

Turnover, an important indicator of the market, on the DSE trading floor slipped by 4% to Tk315.80 crore  in the corresponding period.

Out of the 351 issues traded during the same time frame, DSE had 177 gainers against 121 losers, while prices of 53 scrips remained unchanged.

Paramount Textile Limited was the most traded stock till filing of this report with shares worth Tk268 million changing hands, closely followed by Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited, Bangladesh Export Import Company Limited, Nitol Insurance Company Limited, Sandhani Life Insurance Company Limited, and Asia Pacific General Insurance Company Limited. 

However, the benchmark index CASPI at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) gained 15 points to close at 14,315 till 11:30 am today.

Of the total 203 issues traded till then, 102 gained, 62 declined, and 39 issues remained unchanged with Tk56 million in turnover.
