Both stock exchanges get new independent directors

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Tuesday finalised the appointment of new independent directors in the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE).

Earlier, the DSE sent a proposal with 18 nominated names to the BSEC for its approval on the appointment of six independent directors of the premier bourse.

The commission in its meeting selected the top qualified names from the DSE list and finalised their appointments.  

The six individuals, the BSEC finalised as DSE's independent directors are Md Eunusur Rahman, former senior secretary; Dr Md Masudur Rahman, Dhaka University professor; Salma Nasreen, former additional secretary; Md Muntakim Ashraf, senior vice president of FBCCI; Habibullah Bahar, former director of Investment Corporation of Bangladesh; and Dr AKM Masud, BUET professor.

Meanwhile, the seven new independent directors finalised for the port city bourse are SM Salamat Ullah Bhuiyan, professor of marketing department at Chittagong University; SM Abu Tayyab, businessman; Md Liaquat Hossain Chowdhury, FCA and FCMA; Asif Ibrahim, businessman; Barrister Anita Ghazi Islam; Mohammed Abdul Malek, editor of the Daily Azadi; and Shoail Mohammed Shakoor, architect.
