Shahjahan, Shakil elected as DSE directors

Their names will be announced officially at the annual general meeting of the bourse slated for Monday

Md Shahjahan Ali Khan and Md Shakil Rizvi have been elected directors in the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) directors polls on Sunday.

The duo will replace the two directors who will retire this year in line with the demutualisation scheme.  

The election began at 10:00am and continued till 3:30pm without any break on the ground floor of Stock Exchange building in Dhaka's Motijheel.

Three candidates — Shakil Rizvi, managing director of Shakil Rizvi Stock Ltd, Mohammad Shahjahan, managing director of Jahan Securities, and Mohammad Shamim Afzal, chief executive officer of Desa Securities — contested in the polls.

A total of 178 voters out of 259 members casted their ballots. Eight votes were cancelled during the count.    

Justice Md Abdus Samad, chairman of the DSE election commission, declared the result.

On 'one share, one vote' basis, Shahjahan got 86.43 crore votes while Shakil got 82.10 crore votes.   

Names of the newly-elected directors will be announced at the 58th annual general meeting (AGM) of the bourse on Monday.

The final voter list was published on the DSE website on December 8, while nomination papers were collected from December 9 and submitted by December 11.
