The project is funded by the JTI Foundation and supported by JTI Bangladesh, as part of the “Wash” programmes aiming to provide one million people with access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene in developing countries by 2025

An automated water supply booth was launched on Sunday in Laxmipura of Gazipur to ensure safe drinking water for the underprivileged communities, especially ready-made garment (RMG) workers.

The social initiative is part of a specialised project titled "Shujola – Promoting Water Entrepreneurs and Digital Financing Mechanism," said a press release.

Shujola is a 15-month pilot project being implemented by Swisscontact Bangladesh that aims to ensure access to safe water in RMG workers' residential communities.

The project will end on 15 December, 2020.

The "Shuddho Drinking Water" booth was successfully launched jointly by Jabed Ali, councillor of ward no 27 of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC), Mustafizur Rahman, secretary of GCC, and Hanifur Rahman Lotus, chairman of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Health Centre.

The project is funded by the JTI Foundation and supported by JTI Bangladesh, as part of the "Wash" programmes aiming to provide one million people with access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene in developing countries by 2025.

The project aims to do so by facilitating private parties to work with water technology companies selected by Shujola to establish water booths in RMG workers' residential communities.

Shujola offers a seed grant through their partner water technology companies to help entrepreneurs establish their water booths at a reduced investment to ensure that they can supply safe water to these communities at an affordable price.
