SGSF requests not to skip RMG workers' annual wage hike
Sommilito Garments Sramik Federation (SGSF) has requested the government not to skip the implementation of the 5 percent annual wage hike for the garment workers
Sommilito Garments Sramik Federation (SGSF) has requested the government not to skip the implementation of the 5 percent annual wage hike for the garment workers.
The federation made the request as the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), the platform of 2,300-odd knitwear factories, recently requested the government to postpone the wage hike process for the next two years.
However, the federation protested the move and urged the government not to pay heed to the request of BKMEA.
A statement signed by SGSF's President Nazma Akter and General Secretary Nahidul Hasan Nayan reads, "Government should carefully consider it so that RMG workers, who are behind to keep country's economic wheel running, should not be deprived off any legal rights."
