The Labour and Employment Ministry on Monday directed the readymade garment (RMG) owners to pay last month's wages and salaries to their workers by April 16.

"Legal action will be taken if anyone ignores the directives," Monnujan Sufian, state minister for Labour and Employment said, Somoy TV reports.

On March 26, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Rubana Huq urged the owners to consider closure of their factories as the nation is fighting to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The government extended the public holidays till April 25 to curb the novel coronavirus spread across the country.
