State minister for labour and employment Begum Munnujan Sufian has asked garments factory owners to pay the workers festival bonuses by July 27 and half of their current month salary in advance by July 30.

She has also asked employers to pay the current month's salaries and bonuses to workers in all other sectors by July 25.

The state minister made the statements while addressing the 65th meeting of the government-employers-workers tripartite advisory council (TCC) regarding the payment of Eid-ul-Adha bonuses of workers held at the ministry premises in Bijoynagar on Monday, reads a press release issued by the ministry.

"Keeping in tune with the government holidays, the workers will enjoy three days of Eid vacations. Workers have been asked to stay in their workplaces on Eid to curb the spread Covid-19 infections," said Munnujan.

She has also advised the factory owners not to lay off any workers to keep the wheels of the economy turning and to keep productions steady.

Bangladesh garments manufacturers and exporters association (BGMEA) president Rubana Huq, president of Jatiya Sramik League Fazlul Haque Mintu, general secretary of Bangladesh Labor Foundation Advocate Delwar Hossain Khan, Industry All Bangladesh Council secretary-general China Rahman, Labor ministry secretary KM Abdus Salam along with various other employers and workers union activists and government officials were also present during the event.
