Govt gives Tk1.32cr to BGMEA as death compensation to workers

State Minister for the Ministry of Labour and Employment handed over the cheque to BGMEA

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has received Tk1.32 crore from the Central Fund of the Ministry of Labour and Employment as death compensation for 66 garment workers.

State Minister for the Ministry of Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian handed over the cheque to Commodore (Retd) Mohammad Abdur Razzak, the BGMEA secretary, at the Secretariat on Wednesday.  

Separately, Marico Bangladesh Ltd. and Cold Rolled Steel Ltd., a subsidiary of S Alam Group, have also handed over cheques worth around Tk.1.93 crore to the Bangladesh Sramik Kallyan Foundation fund under the ministry.  

The fund was established for the welfare of workers in different formal and informal sectors.

Christabel Randolph, director (Legal and Corporate Affairs) of Marico Bangladesh Ltd. handed over a cheque of Tk1.88 crore to Begum Monnujan Sufian. It is a specific portion of the company's profit.
And Cold Rolled Steel Ltd. handed over another cheque of Tk4.59 lakh to the state minister for labour and employment.  

High officials from the ministry, Marico and Cold Rolled Steel, were present at the event.
