The Customs Bond Commissionerate commissioner in Chattogram said the existing problems would be resolved expeditiously on the basis of mutual discussion and cooperation

Commissioner AKM Mahbubur Rahman of the Customs Bond Commissionerate in Chattogram has said that they will work together with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to help the sector overcome the ongoing slowdown.

"The existing problems would be resolved expeditiously on the basis of mutual discussion and cooperation, including speedy approval of bond-related activities in the garment industry," he said.

The newly appointed commissioner made the comments on Tuesday during a courtesy call on a BGMEA delegation.

Mahbubur mentioned that the contribution of the garment industry to massive employment – including national, economic and socio-economic developments – is undeniable.

"The Customs Bond Commissionerate can play an important role in increasing exports and investment in the readymade garment sector through its various activities," said Mohammad Abdus Salam, the first vice-president of the BGMEA.

BGMEA Vice-President AM Chowdhury Selim, three directors – Anjan Shekhar Das, Mohammad Musa, and Enamul Aziz Chowdhury – and former director and chairman of the Standing Committee on Customs Mohiuddin Chowdhury were also present at the meeting.

Additional Commissioner Mahfuzul Haque Bhuiyan and Assistant Commissioner Santosh Saran also attended the meeting.
