Apparel workers who did not work will be paid 60% salary

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has requested all members not to retrench any worker in the month of May.

The apparel workers, who didn't work in April, will get 60% of the gross salary and another 5% will be adjusted with the salary of May. The workers, who have joined the work, will receive 100% payments for days they worked, according to a statement from BGMEA.

IndustriALL Bangladesh Council (IBC), Trade Union Centre (TUC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, reached an understanding regarding the salary to be paid, said the BGMEA statement.

Meanwhile, workers from 23 factories in Gazipur and 6 in Ashulia demonstrated on Saturday for 100% wages in April, according to the industrial police.
