Arrears payment: A-One (BD) Ltd workers protest for 4th day

More than 100 workers of A-One (BD) Limited staged a sit-in demanding payment of arrears on Friday.

They held the sit-in for the fourth day in front of National Press Club in the capital.

Ataur Rahman, one of the protesters, said they have not received any salary or allowance since January this year.

"When the factory was closed in March, our payments became uncertain. We had already pressed home our demand addressing several authorities, including Dhaka Export Processing Zone."

Some workers were paid Tk10,000-20,000 before Eid-ul-Fitr while some got nothing, he mentioned.
"We urged A-One (BD) Limited to pay our dues, but they took no initiative in the last 11 months in this regard."

Protesters said they had earlier demonstrated in front of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority and Ashulia Press Club demanding payment of arrears.

"But still we got no assurance. They turned us back again and again. So from last Tuesday, we were forced to start the 'Chala Chala Dhaka Chala' programme," said a worker named Rahim Sheikh.

The workers sought the intervention of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority and the prime minister to resolve the crisis.

They also demanded arrears be paid as soon as possible.
