Product exhibition held to celebrate first anniversary of Chattogram E-commerce Family

A day-long exhibition of products was organised to mark the first anniversary of the formation of Chattogram E-commerce Family (CEF).

Entrepreneurs, most of whom were women, showcased their products at the GEC Convention Centre on Saturday.

Hafizur Rahman, additional secretary of the Commerce Ministry, virtually launched the exhibition on Saturday morning and attended the event as a chief guest.

He said, "E-commerce is a new business system. It has a huge potential in Bangladesh. Many youths in Chattogram have launched or joined e-commerce businesses. This is a milestone for the economy." 

One of the participants at the exhibition, Asma Sultana Era, proprietor of Zain Mirror, said, "I have a boutique in the Finlay Square area of Chattogram city. Ever since I started e-commerce trading, my online sales have increased, alongside sales at the outlet. E-commerce has led to the development of a new chain of buyers and sellers."

Farzana Tasnim, owner of Moms Fusion, told The Business Standard that her homemade food business has significantly expanded on Facebook. With no middlemen between buyers and sellers, online sales have also boosted profit margins.

According to CEF Admin, Sagar Dey, the Facebook-based e-commerce group currently boasts 75,000 members, 15,000 of whom are entrepreneurs.

CEF provides free training to 40 entrepreneurs every month.

E-commerce Association of Bangladesh (E-cab) Director (Communication Affairs), Syed Rahman; Director (Corporate Affairs), Asif Adnan; Daraz Regional Commerce Hub Lead, Md Irfanul Karim, among others, also spoke at the launch ceremony.

Daraz Bangladesh Limited was the title sponsor of the event.
