Nordic countries keen to invest more in Bangladesh

Nordic countries are interested in investing more in Bangladesh, the ambassadors representing the nations in Dhaka said during a meeting with the officials of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida) on Tuesday.

Danish Ambassador Winnie Estrup Petersen, Swedish Ambassador Alexandra Berg von Linde and Norwegian Ambassador Aspen Richter-Wendsen paid a courtesy call on Bida Executive Chairman Md Sirazul Islam at Bida's conference room in the capital. 

At the meeting, they discussed the investment environment of Bangladesh, services provided during the Covid-19 pandemic, progress and future plans of the country, read a press release issued by Bida.

Md Sirazul Islam, referring to the increasing economic growth of Bangladesh, said that Bangladesh is moving forward at a fast pace under the able leadership of the prime minister.

He said, "Many of our mega projects such as the Padma Bridge and the deep seaport that will be implemented in the coming years will further increase our economic growth."

"Bangladesh is being developed as an investment-friendly country. We are moving forward with a plan to provide all investment services under one roof," he added.

Danish Ambassador Winnie Estrup Petersen said that Bangladesh has recently made significant progress which has made her country interested in investing and reinvesting in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Swedish Ambassador Alexandra Berg von Linde said that her country is interested in investing in the agriculture and food industry of Bangladesh.

"Bangladesh is a big market and the purchasing power of the people is also increasing day by day which has made the traders in Sweden interested in Bangladesh," she said.

Norwegian Ambassador Aspen Richter-Wendsen said that Norway has always been a partner in Bangladesh's development, especially in the field of telecommunications, which is one of the major partners in Bangladesh's development.

Referring to lucrative investments in Bangladesh, he said Norway is currently interested in investing heavily in green technology, solar energy, jute, and jute products in Bangladesh.

Bida Director Ariful Haque, in a video presentation, highlighted: the economic progress of Bangladesh, investment environment, areas of investment, and future plans of the country.

Bida executive members Navas Chandra Mandal, Mahasina Yasmin and Abhijit Chowdhury were present during the meeting.
