All the Tk1,000 and Tk500 notes would remain in circulation, said a press release

Bangladesh Bank on Thursday said it has no plans to withdraw the Tk1,000 and Tk500 notes from circulation.

The central bank said this in an official press release, issued in response to some recently published news reports that claimed both these notes were going to be withdrawn from circulation.

This type of news creates fear and confusion among people, destabilises the management of the currency, said the release.

Therefore, the release said, all the Tk1,000 and Tk500 notes would remain in circulation.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister's Economic Adviser Dr AKM Mashiur Rahman, after a meeting with Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir, also told reporters that no such decision was taken.
