National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan on Thursday said they are going to send a letter to the commerce ministry, seeking immediate measures in stopping the import of casino equipment.

He said this while briefing the media at his office in the afternoon.

"We will request the ministry to make a change in the import policy for including casino instruments in the list of banned goods," said the NBR chairman.

As there is no bar to importing casino instruments in the exiting policy, customs cannot but give approval to release such products, he added.

"We have already given a verbal instruction to customs houses for not releasing any consignment of casino equipment," Mosharraf said.

In the face of a strong criticism from all quarters for not having an embargo on the import of illegal casino equipment in the import policy, the NBR came up with the move.
