Emphasising the importance of enhancing regional connectivity with neighbouring countries, including India, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said increasing regional connectivity will bring economic prosperity to all the countries of the region.

The finance minister also stressed the need for continued cooperation between the two neighbouring countries on issues of mutual interest.

The finance minister made the remarks during an online meeting with Vikram K Doraiswami, the newly-appointed high commissioner of India to Bangladesh on Monday.

The minister said, "India is not only Bangladesh's closest neighbour, the country is our faithful and tested friend as well. Bangladesh prioritises its relationship with India. Bangladesh is now a role model for development in the world."

Stating that India also prioritises the development of relations with Bangladesh, the Indian high commissioner said that India will work with Bangladesh on various issues of mutual interest including the IT sector and healthcare.

He said both countries have a lot in common – including history, language and culture.

"There are many opportunities for mutual cooperation. We have to take advantage of that opportunity and move forward," he said.
