Readymade garments (RMG) workers will go on Eid holidays from August 8, to avoid traffic congestion on highways during their home journey.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal made the announcement at a meeting on law and order situation during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha at his office on Sunday.

Kamal said leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has agreed upon the date.

The early Eid vacation for RMG workers will reduce gridlocks on highways during home journey, the minister added.

The RMG workers will get Eid bonus and salary before Eid-ul-Adha as the government is determined to avoid any labour unrest that invariably flares up before a festival, Kamal said.
