Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Sunday called on Ethiopia to increase imports from Bangladesh.

"Bangladesh is exporting pharmaceutical, ICT, shipbuilding, plastic, ceramics, light engineering and agricultural products to different countries, besides readymade garments as well. All these products from Bangladesh are world-class in quality and relatively low in price. Ethiopia will benefit, importing other products from Bangladesh besides medicines," the commerce minister said, at a meeting with his Ethiopian counterpart, Melaku Alebel.

Tipu Munshi is currently visiting the East African country.

He said, "It is possible to increase trade and investment and resolve complications in this regard through bilateral talks. Trade can be facilitated if delegations from both countries exchange visits."

Ethiopia's Commerce and Industries Minister Alebel urged Bangladesh to import fruits, coffee, flowers, and the like from his country.

He also said Ethiopia can use Bangladesh's skills and experience in its development.

Both ministers agreed to increase trade and investment, overcoming existing trade issues. Direct flights between the two countries are expected to be launched in June.
