A proposal may be placed in the upcoming budget to allocate Tk100 crore to the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust under the 2026-27 fiscal year to address the impacts of climate change and control environmental pollution.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury is set to unveil his maiden national budget for FY27 in parliament this afternoon (11 June), outlining a roadmap to accelerate Bangladesh's transformation into a more investment-led economy and advance its ambition of becoming a trillion-dollar economy through higher growth targets, regulatory reforms and expanded fiscal incentives.
The proposed budget is expected to have a total outlay of Tk9.38 lakh crore, making it the largest national budget in Bangladesh's history.
To tackle air pollution, initiatives may be taken to strengthen regular air quality monitoring through 15 Continuous Air Monitoring Stations (CAMS) and 16 Compact Continuous Air Monitoring Stations (C-CAMS) across the country.
Plans may also include establishing 10 modern vehicle inspection centres through the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to reduce vehicle-related pollution. An initiative to introduce electric bus services may also be proposed.
In addition, proposals may be made to formulate new guidelines and updated regulations for modernising e-waste management.
