Tax exemption application for hospitals that are set up in districts other than Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Chattogram

The government has proposed a 10-year tax exemption for hospitals that meet certain conditions and are set up outside the major districts.

The tax reprieve was offered during the budget address by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, who highlighted the role of private entrepreneurs in the health sector to be "extremely city-centric".

Saying that the government was promise-bound to ensure a standard and affordable healthcare for every citizen of the country, the finance minister recommended the provision of the tax incentive for hospitals, subject to certain conditions, which are set up in districts other than Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Chattogram.

General hospitals with a minimum of 250-bed capacity and having child and infant care, women and maternity care, oncology, wellbeing and preventive medicine units, and also specialised hospitals with a minimum of 200-bed capacity will be given the ten-year tax break.
