Transactions, salary payment through mobile banking increases in September

The volume of transactions through mobile banking in August was 34.3% smaller than that in July. But in September it increased by 18.6% compared to that of August

Transactions using mobile financial services (MFS) increased in September compared to that in August.

Numbers of transactions and amount of money transferred, cash-in, cash-out, remittance flow, and payment of salaries and allowances through mobile banking were lower in August, than those in July. 

But almost all the aspects of mobile banking returned to a positive trend in September, according to the latest data published by the Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday.

The volume of transactions through mobile banking in August was 34.3% smaller than that in July. But in September it increased by 18.6% compared to that of August.

Tk49,121  crore was transacted through MFS in September, Tk41.403 crore in August, while in July it was around Tk63,000 crore.

Daily transactions through mobile banking in September increased by 22.6% compared to that in August.

In September, Tk1,637 crore was  transacted on an average daily , while the average daily transaction in August was Tk1,335 crore, Tk2,032 crore in July.

The numbers of total transactions was 1.2% and daily transactions was 4.6% higher in September than those in August.

The number of active accounts in September was 4.1 crore – a 1.1% increase from the 4.5 crore active accounts in August. However, there were 4.26 crore active accounts in July.

Meanwhile, the number of registered customers crossed 9.47 crores in September. In August there were 9.29 crore and in July 9.25 registered customers.

The number of mobile banking agents in September increased to around 10.17 lakh.

Around Tk110 crore inward remittances came through mobile banking, which is 5.1% higher than that in August.

Amount of cash-in increased by 28% of that in August to reach Tk14,723 crore in September. At the same time, cash-out in September increased by 7.1% compared to that in August and reached Tk13,895 crore.

The amount of salaries and allowances of employees of business organisation paid through mobile banking in August decreased by 77% compared to that in July. But in September it increased again by 84% compared to that in August.

Besides, Tk937 crore was paid in September as utility bills through mobile banking, which was  3.2% more than that in the previous month.

Payment for purchasing products through mobile banking services in September have also increased by 22% compared to that in August. Tk1,292 crore was transacted for this purpose in September, while in July the amount was Tk1,134 crore.

However, government payments through MFS have decreased by 7.6% compared to that in August.

Other types of payments made through MFS have decreased by 1.4% in September.
