Over 1 lakh technical students to get stipends through bKash

A total of 1,14,697 students of 157 technical education institutions across the country will get stipends and monetary assistance from government through bKash.

The government will aid them for purchasing educational materials, said a media statement on Sunday.

Education Minister Dipu Moni recently inaugurated the stipend disbursement programme through a virtual event, while Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, deputy minister for education joined the event as special guest.

Directorate of Technical Education will implement this programme.

Among others, Munshi Shahabuddin Ahmed, secretary to technical and madrasah education division, Md Sanowar Hossain, director general (DG) of directorate of technical education, Shafiuddin Ahmed, DG of directorate of madrasha education, Mohammad Shams-Ul Islam, managing director of Agrani Bank and Kamal Quadir, chief executive officer of bKash, joined the virtual meeting.

Agrani Bank is the banking partner of this stipend disbursement programme of the directorate of technical education.

Under this programme, each of the eligible students will get Tk3000 as stipend and Tk1000 for purchasing educational materials in every six months.

At the event, Dr Dipu Moni lauded bKash and Agrani Bank for implementing various stipend programmes run by her ministry.

This stipend scheme has been launched for the first time for the overall development of technical students through improvement of quality education by ensuring class attendance and encouraging girls in technical education, the media release said.

Technical students of secondary and higher secondary level will be in the list under this programme. All girls and students with disabilities will be enlisted as beneficiaries of this programme.

Students can easily Cash-out the money from any nearby bKash agent without any charge.

Secondary education stipend programme is the largest stipend scheme run by the Ministry of Education to reduce the dropout rate of school students.

4 million students of secondary level have already received stipends through bKashunder Integrated Stipend Programme in the shortest possible time easily.
