HSBC introduces e-commerce facility on debit card

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) has officially launched e-commerce facility on HSBC Visa Debit Card for customers in Bangladesh.

Along with enabling online transaction facility and mobile wallet top-up for customers in local and global sites, the bank has also announced a 50-day reward campaign for its customers.

During the campaign, customers will receive cashback on any purchases made using the card, top users will receive smartwatches, and launch partners will also provide additional rewards and discounts, informed a press release.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, state minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of Bangladesh, joined a webinar as the chief guest in the presence of HSBC customers and employees to launch the new feature.

Md Humayun Kabir, executive director of Bangladesh Bank; Md Mahbub ur Rahman, CEO of HSBC Bangladesh; Soumya Basu, senior director of Visa; and Ahmed Saiful Islam, head of Wealth and Personal Banking of HSBC Bangladesh, were also present.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, "Digital Bangladesh started off with a set of promises and dreams for every individual in this country. With the launch of this online transaction facility on HSBC Visa debit cards, I must say HSBC Bangladesh is building on those early promises to realise yet another vision, thereby fulfilling a commitment made by the bank to its customers."

Md Mahbub ur Rahman commented, "With the significant increase of online spending and payment driven by the pandemic, we have stepped up our investment and focus on digital solutions."

"We are pleased to launch e-commerce facility on HSBC Visa Debit Card, enabling customers to digitally manage their expenses, both in domestic and international markets. In 2021, we look forward to building on the services and propositions that come along with our debit card to deliver an even more fulfilling experience to our retail customers, per their needs," he added.

To mark the launch, Ahmed Saiful Islam stated, "We see our debit card as an element that will result in a convenient and enriched experience for all our customers. At HSBC Bangladesh, we aim to strengthen flexibility and provide world-class benefits on our card."

"With the addition of this online shopping and payment feature, we remain firm in our commitment to connect customers to opportunities, making everyday life a pleasure," he added.
