The government has formed a committee to search for suitable managing directors (MD) in two state-run banks.

The Financial Institutions Division under the Finance Ministry on Tuesday issued a circular in this regard, stating that a committee has been formed for immediate appointment of MDs in two state-run banks -- Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RKUB) and Bangladesh Development Bank Ltd.

Senior Secretary of the division Asadul Islam is the convener of the four-member committee, which has directed each of the banks’ management to nominate three suitable candidates for MD positions.

A Financial Institutions Division official, on condition of anonymity added that most MD positions of state-owned banks in Bangladesh will be vacant near the end of August this year.

The RKUB’s Deputy Managing Director Mohammad Rafiqul Alam had recently rejected the MD position of the Basic Bank citing low salary as a reason. So, the position at the Basic Bank remains vacant.
