Those who have an NID card can open a bank account from home using the app

City Bank on Sunday introduced a mobile app, enabling customers to instantly open accounts.

"City Ekhoni App" will replace the traditional method of opening a bank account, which requires customers to visit a branch.

Those who have an NID card can now open a bank account using "City Ekhoni App." The service is available for both iOS and Android users.

City Bank has also introduced an electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) system following the guidelines of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit.

The private commercial bank's Managing Director Mashrur Arefin said a customer can now open an account from the comfort of his own home and avoid visiting a branch during the time of the pandemic.

The cutting-edge digital onboarding process will open up the platform of digital banking to millions of unbanked Bangladeshi people, Mashrur said.

The app will make opening a bank account easy.

After installing the "City Ekhoni Account" app, the customer has to choose the desired account type.

The next step is a one-time password (OTP) verification by which the customer's mobile number is verified.

Then the customer has to upload images of the front and reverse of his NID, which is verified in real-time.

Once the NID is verified, the client is asked to take a selfie and provide some more information.

Next, the customer will select the desired product and branch, after which the account is created in real-time.

The customer receives his bank account number via SMS and can start doing transactions right away, reads a press release of City Bank.
