Bangladesh Bank issues more protected Tk1,000 note

The central bank of Bangladesh has issued its updated version of the Tk1,000 note in an aim to further consolidate its security features and protect it against counterfeiting.

The new note, issued on Monday (July 20, 2020), has a five milimetre highly-secure holographic thread – Kinetic StarChrome – on its left side; which the Bangladesh Bank claims is better than the thread being used in already-circulated notes.

The Bangladesh Bank issued a press release in this regard on Monday, stating that all other existing security features, plus the colour and design of the country's highest-valued note remain unchanged in the updated one.

The central bank began issuing the new 160milimetre×70milimetre note on Monday from its head office at Motijheel in Dhaka. The other offices of the Bangladesh Bank will circulate it later.

The StarChrome thread, used in the Tk1,000 note, with four windows visible, is inscribed with the monogram of the Bangladesh Bank as well as the Tk1000 symbol, read the press release.

The release also said the new security thread cannot be easily scratched or twisted off. Its colour will change from golden to light and dark green when the note is tilted; plus it will appear, moving from top to bottom, to be transforming into a bright rainbow colour bar.

In addition, all other Tk1,000 notes in circulation will run simultaneously with valid banknotes.
