No plan to impose fresh ban on flights: CAAB chairman

Bangladesh is not considering fresh restrictions on flights with any countries amid the spread of the new coronavirus strain, said Air Vice Marshal M Mofidur Rahman, chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
He also said that considering the country's economic condition, measures would be taken to reduce the risk of further infection without shutting down air connections, reports Somoy TV.
"Some countries have suspended flights with Britain for their own benefits. They can afford it, and won't face problems if the connectivity is cut off. However, we have to think about our economic condition. Given the current situation, I don't think it is time to stop the flights," Mofidur Rahman added.
More than 30 countries have halted flights with the UK.
The new Covid-19 variant, highly infectious variant of the coronavirus that has emerged in Britain, has been identified in Denmark, the Netherlands and as far as Australia, World Health Organisation (WHO) Covid-19 technical lead Maria Van Kerkhove said on Sunday.
However, WHO cautioned against major alarm over the new strains, saying this was a normal part of a pandemic's evolution.
