Experts assume the bomb had been there since the Second World War or Liberation War

A cylinder-like bomb, weighing around 250 kilograms, has been discovered at the construction site of the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka.

Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul Ahsan, director of the HSIA, said the bomb was found when workers were digging a hole for piling at the construction site around 9am on Wednesday.

On information, members of the Air Force's Bomb Disposal Unit went to the spot and identified it as a general purpose or GP bomb.

Later, in a press release, ISPR said the bomb disposal unit of the Bangabandhu base of the air force defused the bomb and sent it to Rasulpur Firing Range in Tangail for demolition.

Experts assumed that the bomb had been there since the Second World War or Liberation War.

An airport armed police battalion member told The Business Standard that the bomb-like object has been found around 8-10 feet beneath the third terminal project construction area.

"The area is far away from the airport regular terminal and that did not interrupt regular activities of the HSIA," he added.
