Pran starts processing mangoes for country’s fruit lovers

Pran, one of the largest agro-processors in the country, has started mango collection and pulping activities to produce mango juice, mango bar and other food items. 

During the Covid-19 pandemic, while harvesting and collecting agro products have become difficult this year, Pran's efforts will hopefully help to meet demand among mango and fruit lovers.

Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque inaugurated the activities yesterday through a video conference from his official residence in the capital.

This year, the Pran-RFL Group is collecting mangoes from the farmers of Rajshahi, Natore, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Dinajpur, Meherpur and Satkhira. The conglomerate has started the processing activities at Pran Agro Ltd factory in Natore and Barind (Varendra) Industrial Park in Rajshahi. 

Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque praised Pran Group for playing a big role in mango collection and processing activities using modern technology amid Covid-19 difficulties. He said, "If it was possible to show the activities to the people of the country, they could understand the hard work our farmers are doing during this difficult time to keep the wheels of the country's economy moving."

The minister said that while Pran is the pioneer of the country's agro processing sector, at present, many more companies have come forward and are playing important role for the country's economic development and creating employment.

Through video conference, Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, chairman and chief executive officer of Pran-RFL Group, said, the government and private sector have to work together for the economic development of the country. He praised the government for taking various remedial steps during the corona crisis.

He also said, "We set up processing factories that are equipped with the latest technology, so that customers can drink fresh mango juice. For the same reason, we have set up factories in the areas which are famous for mango production. As a result, farmers can easily sale their produce in our factories."
