“The state should buy one third of total paddy harvested each year directly from the farmers.”

Krishak Sangram Samiti has urged the government to start agro-based industries under special arrangement to ensure that farmers get fair value for their crops.

In a press release issued Wednesday and signed by the Samiti president Hafizur Rahman and general secretary Shahjahan Kabir, the organization put forth a two-point formula to be implemented as quickly as possible.

Farmers were facing difficulties repairing their equipment for irrigation because of the shutdown and disruption in irrigation just before harvesting was damaging crop production, it said.

"Due to the shutdown, vegetable growers are not getting fair price as the number of buyers have decreased. Farmers are facing miserable situation now," it added.

"The state should buy one third of total paddy harvested each year directly from the farmers," it demanded.
