A baby girl born in Mongla cyclone shelter was named Bulbuli

A teenage girl was killed and two injured after a tree fell on their house in Rampal upazila of the district on Sunday morning.

The deceased is Samia Khatun, 15, daughter of Abdul Jabber in Bhoroshapur village under the upazila. Another woman from Bagerhat Sadar upazila injured as tree fell on her.

The injured were given first aid at the scene of the incident, Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Kamrul Islam and Superintendent of Police Pankaj Chandra Rai confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

The family of victim Samia was given aid of Tk60,000, the deputy commissioner added.   

Meanwhile, a woman named Hanufa Begum gave birth a baby girl in ATC Government Primary School in Mithakhali area under Mongla upazila. The baby was named Bulbuli after the cyclone.

The mother and the baby are in good condition, said Deputy Commissioner Md Mamunur Rashid.

People from cyclone shelters started moving to their homes after the impacts of the storm faded.

The cyclone caused the villages in the Bogi area to become inundated after the embankment in Baleswar River overflowed. Around one kilometer embankment area is in a risky position.

A total of 35,529 hectres Aman paddy were damaged by the storm. Besides, 3,529 shrimp farms were washed away in different areas of the district, said sources at the Fisheries Department.
