WaterAid develops ‘easy-to-use’ hand washing station manual to fight Covid-19
The manual is designed to meet the varying context, geographies, affordability and considering physical abilities of people, helping everyone, everywhere to stay safe and healthy during this moment of crisis
WaterAid Bangladesh has developed an "easy-to-use" context-specific handwashing station manual for individuals, households and communities for both urban and rural areas.
The manual is designed to meet the varying context, geographies, affordability and considering physical abilities of people, helping everyone, everywhere to stay safe and healthy during this moment of crisis. Washing hands frequently with soap and water is one of the first line of defense to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Many people in Bangladesh still do not have access to proper handwashing facilities, says a press release.
The handwashing station manual showcases over 22 innovative stations ranging from Barrels, Metal Frames, Paddle types, Linear Plastic Basins, Circular Tanks, Linear SS, Fixed Base Circular Tanks, etc.
Each device is constructed in a way to meet the needs of people living in various contexts across the country, especially those from marginalised and hard to reach areas. The manual gudie is easy-to-use and anyone can follow the gudie developing handwashing stations based on their needs.
Ms Hasin Jahan, country director of WaterAid stated, "During this pandemic, it is vital that everyone in all parts of the country are equipped with appropriate and accessible handwashing facilities to be able to keep themselves and their loved ones in safety. This can only be possible when need-based user-friendly facilities are available. This handwashing station manual we believe will do just that."
