The order also provides a mandate for the country to facilitate international access to safe and effective virus vaccines

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued an executive order on ensuring access to Covid-19 vaccines procured by the US government, prioritising American people.

It asked the US Secretary of Health and Human Services to ensure that a sufficient supply of Covid-19 vaccine doses is available for all Americans who choose to be vaccinated in order to safeguard America from the virus, according to the White House website.

The order also provides a mandate for the country to facilitate international access to safe and effective virus vaccines after ensuring the ability to meet the vaccination needs of the American people

Meanwhile, President-elect Joe Biden on Tuesday laid out his plan to fight the coronavirus pandemic during his first 100 days in office, saying his administration would vaccinate 100 million Americans, push to reopen schools and strengthen mask mandates.

The virus has killed more than 283,000 Americans and caused millions to lose their jobs.
