The authorities of Sir Salimullah Medical College (SSMC) Mitford Hospital have asked its employees to buy own masks, mentioning that the hospital does not have enough money.

"Number of patients is increasing everyday with the spread of coronavirus in the country. The employees at the hospital need to wear masks to stay safe. Due to the lack of fund, the hospital authorities cannot supply the masks to everyone," a notice signed by the hospital's Director Brig Gen Morshed Rashid reads.

Afterwards, the intern doctors of the hospital called for an indefinite work abstention starting from March 21, protesting the decision.

The dental unit of the intern doctors of the hospital, in an emergency briefing, said that they called the work abstention because the hospital authorities failed to ensure minimum safety of the doctors in treating Covid-19 patients.

Bangladesh today announced the second death from the novel coronavirus in the country. Four patients were diagnosed with the virus in the last 24 hours, increasing the total number to 24.
