The local administration of Madaripur's Shibchar has shut down all the markets, except daily essentials shops in the upazila to curb the coronavirus spread.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting with Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Asaduzzaman in the chair today.

The administration also stopped public transport across the upazila.

"A total of 80 people, mostly Italy returnees, in 19 unions of the upazila have been kept in isolation over coronavirus. We are also monitoring closely so that the self-quarantined persons can't go outside of their home," Asaduzzaman told The Business Standard on Thursday.

"We have banned all kinds of public gatherings in the upazila," the UNO said.

The administration also requested all the residents of the upazila to follow the directives.

Bangladesh announced its first death from coronavirus infection on Wednesday. The total number of coronavirus infected persons stood at 17 as of Thursday in the country.
