Covishield production in full swing, says SII CEO Adar Poonawalla

SII dropped the price of its Covid-19 vaccine, dubbed "Covishield," from $400 to $300 per dose for states

CEO of the Serum Institute of India (SII) Adar Poonawalla on Saturday night said that the development of the Covid-19 vaccine Covishield is in full swing in Pune, after a meeting with his associates and stakeholders in the United Kingdom. 

Poonawalla in a tweet said, "Had an excellent meeting with all our partners & stakeholders in the UK. Meanwhile, pleased to state that COVISHIELD's production is in full swing in Pune. I look forward to reviewing operations upon my return in a few days."

On Wednesday, SII dropped the price of its Covid-19 vaccine, dubbed "Covishield," from ₹400 to ₹300 per dose for states, reports Hindustan Times.

Poonawalla was also given Y category protection by the Central Reserve Police Force on Wednesday by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) (CRPF).

Adar Poonawalla had requested financial assistance from the government earlier this month in order to increase vaccine production.
