Covid-19: Global cases surpass 28 mn

Global Covid-19 cases have exceeded 28 million, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). 

The global case count reached 28,054,276, with a total of 908,017 deaths worldwide, the CSSE data showed on Friday morning.

The United States reported the highest caseload and death toll of the world, with 6,395,904 cases and 191,753 deaths.

In terms of Covid-19 cases, India has become the second worst-hit country as it reported 4,465,863 cases while the death toll from the virus reached 72,062 in the South Asian country till date.

Besides, Brazil's Covid-19 death toll surpassed 129,522 on Friday while the country's total caseload counted 4,238,446.

Bangladesh situation 

Bangladesh saw the death of another 41 Covid-19 patients in 24 hours till 8 am on Thursday, increasing the number of total deaths in the country to 4,634 after recording the first death on March 18.

During the period, health authorities have detected 1,892 new Covid-19 patients and the total number of infections in the country rose to 3,32,970.

The recovery rate from Covid-19 in Bangladesh reached 70.14 percent on Thursday as 2,746 patients got cured from the deadly disease during the period, pushing up the number of total recoveries since March to 2,33,550.

Besides, the daily infection rate in Bangladesh declined to12.16 percent during the period as 1,892 new patients were detected after testing 15,642 samples.
