“ICT Minister, health secretary, information secretary, BSMMU VC have already received the vaccine. Their vaccination will increase people's confidence to get inoculated"

Health Minister Zahid Maleque today said that countrywide vaccination programme is happening smoothly putting aside all speculations.

"ICT Minister, health secretary, information secretary, BSMMU VC have already received the vaccine. Their vaccination will increase people's confidence to get inoculated," the health minister said.

"If anyone cannot register in the "Surokkha" app, they can come to the centre and register for taking the vaccine," he added.

Earlier today, the pilot Covid-19 vaccination programme started in five hospitals in the capital.

So far 560 health workers will receive vaccines from the hospitals.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from her official residence Ganabhaban on Wednesday virtually inaugurated the programme, which aims to vaccinate 20% of the country's population with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.

Bangladesh currently has 70 lakh doses of the vaccine Covishield in stock.

Of those 50 lakh doses are purchased and 20 lakh doses were gifted by India.
