The newly elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru, has passed away while undergoing treatment at Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka.

Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal, secretary of the bar association, confirmed his death in a Facebook post today. 

Earlier on Tuesday, he was put on life support at CMH upon deterioration of his health condition. 

Abdul Matin, also former law minister, had tested positive for Covid-19 on 16 March and was immediately admitted to the Dhaka CMH. 

Later, he was taken to the Intensive Care Unit on 28 March. Four days later, he tested negative for the viral disease. 

After slight improvement, he was shifted to the cabin on 3 April but returned to ICU again on 6 April.

Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid, in a press note issued, mourned the death of the former minister and prayed for the salvation of his departed soul.

Abdul Matin Khasru, a presidium member of the ruling party, was elected president of the bar association on 13 March.
