Prof Dr Uttam Kumar Barua, director of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College & Hospital tested positive with the novel coronavirus on Sunday. 

Secretary General of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Dr Ehteshamul Haque Chowdhury Dulal confirmed the matter to The Business Standard. 

Uttam Kumar Barua is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital's corona unit. His health condition is stable.

Bangladesh today confirmed 32 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 3,141 new cases of infection testing 14,505 samples in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 1,171 and the number of total infections stood at 87,520.
