Special Covid vaccination drive extended for three days

The government has decided to extend the ongoing Covid-19 special vaccination drive by three days aiming to administer the first and second doses to the unvaccinated people.

Professor Dr Ahmedul Kabir, additional director general (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), made the announcement during an online press briefing on Monday.

He said, "The mass vaccination campaign will run on Tuesday, Thursday and next Saturday. We have extended the initiative following high demand."

"Over one crore people were vaccinated in the past three days' drive. After 8 October, administering the first jab of Covid-19 vaccine will be stopped."

The special vaccination campaign started on 28 September, marking the birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh reported two deaths and 696 cases from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours till 8am Monday.

The positivity rate was recorded at 12% during the same period after testing 5,801 samples across the country.

Also, 538 Covid patients recovered in the last 24 hours taking the recovery to 97.03%.

So far 29,371 people have died and 2,026,908 tested positive for the virus in Bangladesh since 2020.
