Single-day Covid death toll jumps to 101, infection rate increases slightly

Bangladesh reported 101 more Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours till 8am Sunday, taking the total death count to 11,053 in the country.

On 20 April, the number of daily fatalities dropped below 100 after a record number of daily deaths in four consecutive days since April 16. 

The country's highest-ever deaths from Covid-19 were reported on 19 April when 112 people died from the dreaded virus. The Covid-19 death rate now stands at 1.48% in the country.

In the meantime, the country recorded 2,922 new cases, with an infection rate of 13.33% in the last 24 hours. The infection rate was 13.11% on Saturday. The country's caseload reached 7,45,322 as of Sunday. 

In the meantime, 21,922 samples were tested in 350 labs across the country.

Among the latest day's victims, 52 were men, and 49 were women. All of them died in different hospitals across the country. 

Also, 4,301 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, with an 88.21% recovery rate.

The Covid-19 victims' gender breakdown shows that of the total deceased across the country, 8,120 were men and 2,933 were women.

Moreover, 54 of the deceased hailed from the Dhaka Division, 23 from Chattogram, eight from Sylhet, seven from Barishal, five from Khulna, two from Rangpur and one each from Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the news of the first death from the virus came out 10 days later, on 18 March.

India's new daily cases of the coronavirus disease (covid-19) crossed 300,000 for the fourth straight day as the Union ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW) said on Sunday morning that 349,691 fresh infections were detected across the country in the last 24 hours, taking the infection tally to 16,960,172. 

Besides, 2,767 people died in the last 24 hours, which takes the total death toll to 192,311 in the country. 

As of Sunday, 3,114,288 people died worldwide from Covid-19 and 147,128,661 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
