Md Kamruzzaman, sub-inspector of Sarail Police Station in Brahmanbaria and officer-in-charge of Aruail camp, have been withdrawn from the camp for celebrating his birthday without complying with social distancing rules.

On the occasion of his 39th birthday on June 1, various programmes were organised. Police members of the camp, traders of the local market and many others were present at the birthday party. The photo session was held in groups without following social distancing guidelines.

When the pictures of the event spread on Facebook, there were strong criticisms from people. In the current situation of the country, many people expressed their displeasure over such careless acts.

However, Kamruzzaman said, "The police members of the camp organised the event on the occasion of my birthday. Initially, it was supposed to be held on the rooftop of the union parishad, but due to power outages, it was held at the digital centre."

"My birthday has never been celebrated like that," he added.

Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police Mohammad Anisur Rahman told reporters that Kamruzzaman had been withdrawn from the camp. At the same time, a new officer has been posted.

Until June 2, 172 people, including doctors, health workers, policemen and expatriates, had been infected with coronavirus in Brahmanbaria. Among them, two died.
Also, after recovering from Covid-19, 61 people got clearance from the isolation centre.
