Senior Cox’s Bazar journo dies of coronavirus in CMCH

Coronavirus has taken the life of senior journalist Abdul Monayem Khan of Cox's Bazar.

The 58-year-old breathed his last at Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) around 3pm on Sunday.

His brother-in-law, Joynal Abedin, confirmed the news.

According to family members, Monayem was suffering from severe fever from mid-May.

After his son Mohaimen got sick as well, both of them gave their swab samples for coronavirus detection test on May 30.

On May 31, both results came positive.

On June 1, Monayem was admitted to an isolation centre run by a non-governmental organisation in Ukhiya.

After his health condition deteriorated, he was shifted to CMCH on June 3. His health condition improved on June 5.

Early Sunday, his condition deteriorated again and he was shifted to the intensive care unit after 2pm. He breathed his last right after he was shifted there.

Monayem had worked for several mainstream newspapers of the country, such as The Daily Star, New Age and the Daily Sun. At the time of his death, he was working as the Cox's Bazar district correspondent of the Financial Express.
