Scientific research to determine the effectiveness of coronavirus drug Favipiravir on coronavirus positive patients has been started in Khulna.

The research is being conducted under the leadership of Dr Shailendranath Biswas, Junior Medicine Consultant of Khulna Medical College. Dr Shailendranath Biswas said that the scientific test started on Wednesday in Khulna.

He added, "The scientific test is being conducted on coronavirus positive patients undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital."

"The research will be conducted on a total of 100 people. The research will be published in an international journal after it ends. It will be known as the 'Khulna Trial'," he added.

"The first phase of the scientific trial was held in Dhaka, the second phase is now being held in Khulna. The effectiveness of this treatment will be determined on the basis of the data obtained from the test," Dr Dr Shailendranath Biswas further said.

The research co-investigators are Dr SK Ballabh, former principal of Khulna Medical College, Dr Sheikh Farid Uddin Ahmed, Associate Professor of Khulna Medical College, Dr Tahmida Khanam, Indoor Medical Officer at the department of medicine of Khulna Medical College, Dr. Mainul Haque, Dr. Ripon and Dr. Abhijit.
