People who came in contact with coronavirus-infected and deceased Amtali upazila Awami League President GM Delowar have been sent into home quarantine.

Barguna district health department on Saturday collected test samples from 35 people, including the wife and children of the deceased, as they came in contact with GM Delowar while he was being treated.

They have been asked to stay under home quarantine.

The district health department said Upazila Health officer Dr Shankar Adhikari, Medical Officer Dr Imdadul Haque Chowdhury and Dr Tanjirul Islam and upazila health complex's cashier Md Shahidul Islam have also been sent into home quarantine for the same reason.

Barguna Civil Surgeon Dr Humayun Shahin Khan on Saturday said, "We have collected the samples from the 35 people in the morning and sent those for testing in Dhaka today."

According to locals, around one hundred people went to see Delowar at his house while he was sick. Those people and their families are in home quarantine as well.

The 72-year-old freedom fighter and former chairman of the local upazila parishad died at his home in Lecha village at Amtali upazila in Barguna on Thursday. He had been suffering from coronavirus symptoms for 8-10 days before his death.

On Friday, even after his test results came positive, hundreds of people gathered at the deceased's house completely ignoring the directives of the authorities concerned to attend his funeral.
