The police headquarters has confirmed the highest spike in coronavirus cases in a day, with a total of 241 police personnel being infected in the last 24 hours. 

The new cases are all reported outside the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) zone. 

According to the police headquarters, so far, 2,382 policemen have tested Covid-19 positive till Saturday. Of them, 1,041 are DMP members. 

In the DMP, the cases include an additional deputy commissioner and an assistant commissioner while most of the remaining are field officers.

The DMP has taken all necessary measures to ensure treatment of the infected officers, said a press release issued by the police headquarters.

Meanwhile, according to data from various police units across the country, 361 police personnel have fully recovered from the novel coronavirus. However, seven have died to date. 

All measures have been taken at the Central Police Hospital, along with other dedicated hospitals for the police, to ensure proper treatment of the infected policemen as per the directive from Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, read the press release.
